Lanham native D'Andre "Dre" Wint was one of two men who were found shot and killed at the Nolte Local Park in Silver Spring late on Sunday afternoon, leaving his loved ones reeling.
"(He) was ruthlessly taken from us," Karen Molina wrote. "A beautiful soul that has filled all of our lives with love and joy is now gone."
Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police were called shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, to the 200 block of Denver Road, where they found Wint and Quincy Johnson, 20,
Johnson and Wint both suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were treated at the park by first responders and pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting remains under investigation, and no suspect has been apprehended.
"To truly know Dre, was to know light and love. He had the most infectious smile and laugh and lit up our hearts with his presence," Molina continued. "He had a heart of gold and so much more life to live."
More than $22,000 has been raised in just days following Wint's death as friends and family work to "give Dre the memorial he deserves, to honor him and his memory as we say our goodbyes."
"This was a student I taught in first grade," his former teacher posted on social media. "D'Andre was such a happy, easy going kid. I have so many sweet and funny memories of him during his first grade year."
